Late one night in Bishop Auckland, police officers came across someone newly arrived in the area and facing homelessness. They ensured his safety and referred him to our partners, Cornerstone Supported Housing and Counselling, the next morning.
Thanks to joined-up working, he received immediate one-to-one support, food, phone charging — and a Sleep Pod for emergency shelter. He’s now working with the Homeless Prevention Team to explore housing options and longer-term support.
Because services are limited overnight, Cornerstone have equipped Bishop Auckland Police with a small number of Sleep Pods. This means officers can offer life-saving shelter in crisis situations, with Cornerstone following up the next day.
