A huge community effort saw 600 Sleep Pods delivered last week across the North of England, providing life-saving emergency shelters for people sleeping rough. In partnership with dozens of outreach teams, this powerful collaboration shows what’s possible when compassion and action come together.

When a couple arrived at Cornerstone’s Bishop Auckland Homeless Hub seeking help, they were doing everything they could to find a place to call home, even as they faced sleeping rough during Storm Amy. With warmth, safety, and dignity as Cornerstones’ priorities, they provided them with Sleep Pods, hot showers, food, and a place to rest while they continued their search.

One individual in Bishop Auckland has returned their Sleep Pod after being safely housed — a powerful moment made possible by the dedicated support of our North East Hub, Cornerstone Supported Housing and Counselling, working alongside Sadler House and Durham County Council.

As winter continues to bring very harsh conditions out there, we are providing Sleep Pods to those facing extreme cold in Ukraine. These emergency shelters offer vital warmth and protection for people in desperate situations.

Another amazing partnership, this time in Germany, has developed this year with the fantastic team at Kältebus Oldenburg . The team there now have a supply of Sleep Pods to give out during their regular outreach work where they supply warm food and drinks, blankets and warm clothes to the homeless in Oldenburg.

We have teamed up with an amazing group of people in the Algarve in Portugal this year to help with the rapid rise of rough sleepers in that region.

As the icy weather sets in, Sleep Pods are helping rough sleepers like Michael in Leeds stay dry and warm. With hundreds of Pods already distributed, we’ll keep working through winter to reach those who need them most.

On the coldest night of the year, our staff and volunteers slept rough using Sleep Pods to raise awareness while opening our doors to those in need. Thanks to their dedication, we achieved zero rough sleepers in Hartlepool, showing what’s possible when a community comes together.
