Earlier this winter, UNUM chose to do something different for their annual kick-off.
Instead of a traditional team-building exercise, their teams came together to build Sleep Pods — practical, life-saving shelters that are now being used by frontline homelessness charities across the UK.
What started as an afternoon of collaboration has since become something much bigger.
From Team Activity to Frontline Support
The Pods built during the session are now in active use, supporting outreach teams working in severe weather conditions. They are helping charities maintain contact with individuals sleeping rough and providing short-term protection from wind, rain, and freezing temperatures.
Sleep Pods are not a solution to homelessness.
But they are a practical tool that supports outreach work — creating safer conditions while people are connected to housing pathways, specialist services, and long-term support.
Every Pod built that day now represents warmth, dignity, and a moment of safety for someone facing incredibly difficult circumstances.
