From a simple idea to a global impact

The Story of Sleep Pod Builds

All sleep pods are built by hand and this process has evolved from the early days of large volunteer builds to production in prisons and our corporate events.

Humble Beginnings
Sleep Pod started with volunteers, ordinary people coming together on weekends, using simple tools and shared determination to build emergency shelters. What began as a small act of kindness soon grew into a grassroots movement. Every Pod built meant another person facing the cold could have warmth, dignity, and a chance of survival.
Adapting in Times of Crisis

When the COVID-19 pandemic made gathering impossible, our community found a new way. Volunteers built Pods from their homes, kitchens, and garages. Even in isolation, people worked together with one shared goal: to protect the most vulnerable during one of the toughest winters on record. This spirit of creativity and compassion kept our mission alive when it was needed most.

A New Chapter: Building in Prisons

Today, our builds have evolved into something even more sustainable and transformative. Partnering with UK prisons, Sleep Pods are now produced reliably and consistently, giving us the ability to meet growing demand. This partnership also provides meaningful activity and skills for people in prison, another way the project is changing lives.

The Power of Volunteers
From the very beginning, volunteers have been the heartbeat of Sleep Pod. Whether building, fundraising, or spreading the word, every action has added up to something extraordinary. Thousands of Pods have been built, each one representing a moment of compassion, teamwork, and hope.
Expanding Our Reach
Because of this reliable supply chain, Sleep Pod can now respond more quickly to crises. We are distributing Pods not only across the UK but also to people displaced by disasters and conflicts around the world. What started as a local solution is becoming a global act of solidarity.
Looking Ahead
Our story is still being written. With continued support, we can build more Pods, reach more people, and inspire more communities to take action. Every Pod is proof of what’s possible when compassion meets innovation.
